In this great game of life, I think the ultimate goal isn’t wealth or popularity or even freedom. It’s happiness. Because in the end, we just want to live a life we’re proud of – and every goal we create comes from the ultimate desire to be happy.
So over the years, countless books and endless pondering – here are 51 of my go-tips for happiness.
- Never let yourself stop playing. Life is about happiness and happiness comes from fun.
- Find something every day that makes you laugh.
- Don’t forget to spend time with your friends – work isn’t everything.
- Put your phone down when you’re with those you love and care about. They deserve your undivided attention.
- Limit the amount of time you spend on social media (or delete and stop living for a highlight reel). Don’t let yourself be too busy comparing yourself that you don’t live for yourself.
- Never argue with anyone online. If it’s a real disagreement, it deserves an in-person discussion. Non-verbal cues convey more than words.
- Read something new everyday. Learning is the best investment in yourself.
- Do things that challenge you.
- Give advice only when it’s asked for.
- Manners go a long way.
- Speak your mind, but do it from a place of compassion. The truth may hurt but it’s always worth it.
- Stop caring if people don’t like you. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions – trust in yourself and those in your inner circle.
- Own less things. Live for moments instead of materials.
- Never talk about how much money you make.
- Know that you have the power to change your circumstances.
- Don’t focus on being busy – be productive.
- Always have a goal you are working toward. If you aren’t moving toward something, you’re falling away from it.
- If you’re not excited or passionate about it, pass on it.
- Be grateful for something every single day. Better yet, write it down daily and recall back when you need to be refreshed.
- Travel whenever and wherever you can.
- Give to others more than you take for yourself.
- Show people when you appreciate them.
- Eat healthy for an extended period of time. Not a diet – but a real lifestyle of healthy food.
- Get organized – your house, your schedule, your life.
- Journal without edits.
- Follow a daily morning or evening routine.
- Take a mental break when you need it.
- Stop comparing yourself to others.
- Accept that sometimes you’ll lose arguments. Move on.
- Spend more time outdoors.
- Savor the little things.
- Have BIG long term goals.
- Find something you are passionate about and work tirelessly for it.
- Practice patience with everyone you meet.
- Be an action-taker.
- Be happy for the happiness of others.
- Surround yourself with people who motivate, inspire or brighten your life.
- Stop watching the news. It’s filled with negativity that only brings down your happiness.
- Take as many chances as you can to surround yourself with positive energy.
- Celebrate your personal accomplishments, no matter how small.
- Be okay letting negativity flow out of your life. Everything in life will evolve at some point so trust that positivity will flow back in.
- Turn off your phone alerts occasionally. Let yourself communicate on your time, not someone else’s.
- Call instead of texting for the people and situations you care about.
- Challenge yourself physically. Find how strong your body is capable of becoming.
- Surprise someone with an act of kindness.
- Restore your body, your energy and yourself with periods of rest.
- Splurge on yourself occasionally.
- Never stop working for something you truly want.
- Recognize that failure is inevitable. But it’s really just another opportunity to learn.
- Be a person of your word.
- And be PRESENT in everything you do.
